Tomato Hornworms and Fungal Spores are Here

Published 12 months ago • 1 min read

Dear Reader

I just wanted to shoot you a quick note to let you know the Tomato Hornworms has arrived in the Greater Baton Rouge area. I haven't seen them in my tomatoes as yet but had a good friend not a mile away, as the bird flies, saw one on a tomato plant so be on the lookout!! Also, now is the time to start seeing fungal and disease issues that typically come up from the top of the soil. You will start seeing your leaves turning brown/yellow and dying. Make sure you get rid of any leaves or stems that look infected. Do not put them in the compost, put in the trash! Feel free to check out my latest post "Harvest Backyard Spring Garden" on my Website and the "Why Crop Rotation is Important" video on YouTube @ LouisianaSimpleLiving!

Not to change the subject, but Erin and I decided to start a travel YouTube channel as well. We are working on the website but the YouTube channel is taking off. We have some content thus far on Louisiana Festivals and the Texas Hill Country, with much more to come. Feel free to check that out at Travel with D and E.

Garden On,

Darrell.

I just uploaded a video that you may like with a great solution for automating your garden watering. Automating your garden watering is an absolute game-changer. I've used other products to do this in the past but the Rainpoint Smart + WIFI watering system that you configure totally on your phone is quite easy to use and very flexible. I am really impressed. Take a look at the video...

Reader, I just wanted to give you a heads-up that I did see my first Squash Vine Borer in my backyard organic raised bed garden in Southeast Louisiana over the weekend. If you have any summer or winter squash, gourds, pumpkins, or similar plants, please make a priority to inspect those plants every single day looking for a hole in your plant near the base of the root and for frass, a wet looking sawdust, that shows where the squash borer ate his way in. If so, your choices include to kill it...
